1968/69 to present

The following consists of a brief summarised history of the Knox Little Athletics centre from it's humble beginnings in 1968 to the present day.

12 Aug 1968

The Knox Little Athletics Centre formation meeting was held on this date at the old Knox Shire Offices and registered as Centre number 23 within the Victorian Little Athletics Association.
30 Sep 1968 The inauguration meeting at the old Knox Shire offices with the formation clubs numbering 10 consisting of: Bayswater, Boronia West, Dorset, Fairpark, Knoxfield,  Rangeview, St Johns, St Josephs, Studfield and Wantirna

1968/69

Brian Fowler Don Brown Hugh Cummins Competition started at the old Boronia High School oval in Tormore Rd on 2nd November 1968. Age groups Under 8 to 12's only.

1969/70

Don Kerr Don Brown Hugh Cummins Competition moved to Chandler Park, Boronia. Rangeview being so large, split off another club  'Basin Heights'. Sherbrooke joined as a club. 761 registered athletes. Wantirna did not continue into this season and was not to be reformed until 1983.

Clubs and number of registrations were: Basin Heights 119, Bayswater 138, Boronia West 73, Dorset 55, Fairpark 114, Knoxfield 44, Rangeview 141, Sherbrooke 74, St.Johns 83, Studfield 84, St.Josephs 72 (from 1969-70 Annual Report). 980 registered athletes.

1970/71

 Don Brown  Hugh Cummins Sherbrooke club left to form their own Centre. 888 registered athletes.

1971/72

Ray Betell     St Johns club moves to the Sherbrooke Centre.

New club Bayswater South joins KLAC but disbands at the end of the season.  630 registered athletes.

1972/73

Don Brown Dave Robb Betty Jamont New club Eastfield is formed from the Studfield East Primary School. 749 registered athletes

1973/74

Don Brown Dave Robb Betty Jamont Rowville joins as a club half way through the 1974 Cross Country season

24 Nhill Centre athletes competed at Knox over one weekend.

1974/75

Don Brown John Prendergast Isobel Addicoat 599 registered athletes

1975/76

George Dyer John Prendergast Isobel Addicoat

Under 7 age group introduced in "Play Training" program.

Divisional Championships introduced. Division 4 (Knox, Sherbrooke & Lilydale)

777 registered athletes

1976/77

1977/78

1978/79

George Dyer Darrell McDougall Ron Papst Competition moved to the, at the time, unfinished Knox Park. Rubber bitumen surface with only 6 lanes at first.

1979/80

John Guerra David Tracy Ron Papst Official opening of Knox park - Sunday 18th November 1979.

1980/81

Current handbook cover design first used this season with winning KLAC logo design

Knox Sherbrooke Womens Athletic club donates CC Trophy

1983/84

George Dyer Doreen Layfield Peter Burke 2 more lanes added at a cost of $110,000

1984/85

George Dyer Doreen Layfield Spencer Moses Scoresby Striders and Wantirna clubs join KLAC. Wantirna was a formation club in 1968/69 but disbanded at the end of that season with only 10 athletes.

1985/86

Doreen Layfield Hilary Brown Spencer Moses Under 13 age group introduced.

1986/87

Under 14 age group introduced

U/6 500m introduced for Cross Country

727 Registered athletes

1987/88

Under 15 age group introduced.

Bayswater changes name to Bayswater Bullets

Lights installed at Knox Track

Knox's John Guerra VLAA Chairman

1988/89

Exchange with Bankstown LAC and billeted with Knox families. First Knox Open Day introduced for visit.

Twilight competition introduced

Mini Olympics replaced Play Training for U/7's

18 Knox athletes went to Bankstown LAC (NSW) over Australia Day weekend.

Basin Heights did not continue after this season. Athletes merged into Rangeview and Boronia West

A Knox LAC foundation club Studfield, amalgamated with the Eastfield club at the start of this season to become known as Eastfield/Studfield or "The Fields".

Another foundation club St Josephs had dissolved at the end of this season and existing members went to Rangeview

Due to its large numbers, Rowville split off into another club Rowville Lakes or "The Lakes".
