An exciting opportunity for those with a flair in web editing and/or Design!
 

Would you like to manage one of the most popular Little Aths Centre websites in Victoria?

 

Do you currently or have managed a website or work in the web industry, or know of someone who would be interested?

After three seasons as the Knox Centre website manager, which has been a great and rewarding job - at the Knox LAC AGM on Mon 19th April, I don't intend to nominate for season 2010/11.

Some time after the Knox Centre Championships would be the idea time to ease your way in – apart from the break to get a feel for it, the Cross Country season is not as busy as Track & Field.

We currently use Microsoft FrontPage and assistance will be given to setup on your computer plus steps required to do updates including setting up and loading photo galleries.

 

Or do you have experience in web based websites with any of the latest packages? If so, it could be setup to save you time, so certain approved users can post their own notices in special areas such as the Secretary, Team Manager and Coaching Co-Ordinator - leaving you just to look after the core aspects and design of the website.

 

If choosing the latter option, while the website is being setup, the current info can still be online and accessed via direct links allowing you to transfer current webpage content only when convenient - so the job can be spread out over time.

 7/3/10 Under 15's "End of an Era" Dress up Day  

The Under 15 tradition of dressing up on the final normal competition day was held a week earlier due to some competing in the Senior Nationals next weekend. The boys were dressed as school girls and the girls dressed as school boys.

 6/3/10 2010 Storm Causes Havoc To Knox LAC Families 

Just a few hours after our competition, the worst hailstorm in our lifetime stuck Melbourne and the City of Knox in particular. Many messages are coming in from Knox LAC families of multiple smashed windows and roofing as well as damaged cars from golf ball sized hail stones! Hopefully, everything is now under control until repairs can be carried out.

 4/3/10 Knox LAC DiscoInferno Tickets - Now on Sale!

 

The Knox LAC DiscoInferno tickets for Sat 10th April are now on sale and will be available on Saturday morning at the track.

A professional DJ from Feel Good Events will be in attendance along with special lighting and effects to keep the music coming.

 3/3/10 Duty for Drinks...Coffee to Coach 

Some years ago, rock group Dire Straits sang about “Money for Nothing….Chicks for Free”. Here at Knox LAC we have “Duty for Drinks…Coffee to Coach”.

Each week during the T&F season, over 120 people, parents and helpers, are required to do duty to ensure Knox athletes are able to compete and learn at Knox Park.

To add a little incentive to those doing duty for the remaining weeks of the T&F season, Steve Coster from Chosen Bean, one of our great sponsors of Knox LAC, has increased his support of the Centre and is giving those doing duty the chance to win $10 Chosen Bean Gift vouchers.

For each of the 3 remaining T&F competition days at Knox Park ( March 6th, 13th and 27th), 2 lucky people for each of those 3 weeks will be selected from all those completing their duty on that week and those lucky two will each win a $10 Chosen Bean voucher to spend at Chosen Bean at the track or at Chosen Bean in Mountain Gate Shopping Centre.  2/3/10 In The News - Brendan Lee and EMR Championships 

There were two articles in this weeks Knox Leader. Wantirna's U14 Brendan Lee was featured for his Gold Medal efforts in Multi-Event Championships and an article on the recent regional championships held at Knox.

 1/3/10 "Athletics Victoria" 2010 Victorian Youth T&F Championships 

Over the weekend, Athletics Victoria (Seniors - U14 plus) held the 2010 Victorian Youth Track and Field Championships at Olympic Park with quite a few current and former Knox Centre athletes competing. Also competing for the experience were JDS Little Athletes as guest invitees. There were some great results which can be viewed from the AV website www.athsvic.org.au including  photos and TV clips coverage. The direct link for results can be viewed HERE!

For those who made national qualifying times/distances to compete at the Nationals in Sydney- Olympic Stadium between Wed 11th March – Sun14th, checkout the grant for financial support at:

 28/2/10 Normal Competition Photos 

 

Next week's Program C is the final point scoring competition day for the Knox Centre to allow awards to be calculated and ordered in time for Knox Championship Day. Sat 13th March competition will be non-point scoring competition. Some clubs will still be point scoring at the club level.

 

Below is a group photo of the Fairpark Flyers club proudly standing in front of their new sunshade which they successfully obtained after winning one of seven McDonalds sporting grants on offer last year. The grant covered most of the cost with thanks to Sharon La Pira from Ferntree gully McDonald's being their supporting franchise.

 25/2/10  DiscoInferno 

 

Get your Dance Shoes on and get Ready to Rage at the Knox LAC “DiscoInferno”

“DiscoInferno”, a Fun and Fundraiser Event of Knox LAC will be held on Saturday April 10th at St. Judes Parish Hall, George St, Scoresby.

The Junior DiscoInferno for U7s-U10s will be held from 5.30pm-7pm and the Senior DiscoInferno for U11s-U16’s will be held from 7.30pm-10.30pm.

 

Ticket prices: $5 each for the Junior DiscoInferno
$10 each for the Senior DiscoInferno

 

* NO TICKET = NO ENTRY *
 

Tickets must be bought prior to the day ( from Club Team Mgrs) and tickets will NOT be available at the door.
 

No pass-outs available on the night. Both discos will be fully supervised, first aid people will be attending and security will be on the doors.

Hotdogs and water will be on sale during the disco.

You can invite your friends along and make it a great night.

A reminder to get your entries into your Club Team Managers by this Saturday 27th Feb - the closing date! The Entry form is available from your Club Team Manager, Quick Links to the right or from HERE!

Knox Centre Championship Conditions:

• Closing date Sat 27th Feb 2010

• No late entries nor will changes be permitted

• Duty is compulsory - No Show - No Event(s) for athletes

• Marshalling will check for correct club uniforms. No coloured shorts, Footy Shorts or Board Shorts. Athletes without patch, black shorts/bloomers (blue for YA) will be sent back to Club Team Managers to resolve.  Events will not wait so may miss out on events.

• Please keep record of athlete events entered. A form is available from HERE! which you can use

• Please check athletes entered have completed at least 50% before and 50% of competition days after Xmas. Any athlete registered since January must complete 90% of competition days.

 24/2/10  2010 World Junior Titles Result Qualifiers  

 

We now have 3 former Knox athletes qualified to compete at world junior titles in Canada in July. Brooke Stratton (Wantirna) and Jordan Williamsz (Rangeview) had already qualified for long jump and 800/1500 respectively. Two weekends ago in Hobart, Jordan improved his 1500 time, and Beth Alexander (Rowville) qualified for 10km walk.

 

Qualifying times does not guarantee selection, but you must do the times to be considered.

 24/2/10  Cinema Under The Stars 

 

The Bayswater “Cinema Under the Stars” is a family friendly initiative sponsored by the Knox Council and local Community Branches of the Bendigo Bank. The last of the current series will be held on Friday March 12th with the showing of “Alvin and the Chipmunks – the Squeakwell” at the Guy Turner Reserve, Bayswater and 8.30pm with gates opening at 7.30pm. Entry is free – bring a blanket and chairs. Click HERE! for a flyer and further details.

“Cinema under the Stars” is also on this Friday night as part of Festival 2010. The movie “Princess and the Frog” will be shown at 8.30 at the Ferntree Gully Reserve, Brenock Park Dve, FTG at 8.30pm with gates opening at 7.30pm. Following the movie ( approx 10.15pm) there will be a fireworks display

 23/2/10  EMR Track & Field Championships - Sunday Photos 

 

The program on both days run smoothly and was a very well organised competition with thanks to the EMR Committee.

 

The Knox Centre PhotoFinish Electronic timing system was also used for all laned events. We know there is at least one track position order correction that needs amending which is to be forwarded to EMR. Just one of the many benefits of the new system - photo evidence in verifying correct finish order.

 22/2/10  EMR Track & Field Championships - Saturday Photos 

 

The Eastern Metropolitan Regional T&F Championships held at Knox Park was one of eight around the state as qualifying rounds for the VLAA State Track & Field Championships being held at Olympic Park next month.

 

It was a fantastic effort by all athletes with many PB's and records obtained. The Qualifiers and Progressions should be out in the next week or so to see who have made it to the State Championships.

 

With many thanks to our Team Managers Julie Harvey and Rob Holdway for their work, as well as Chris McKissack in handing out the results tickets, and to all those who helped out on duty over the two days.

 20/2/10  Important Information For All Athletes Competing at EMR  

Good Luck to all 173 Knox athletes competing in 577 events at the Region Championships.

Could all Knox athletes please sign in with Julie or Rob and let us know that you have arrived for your events. Please check the EMR program for your event times and arrive early.

EVENT CLASHES you must get a Event Release Form from us, this must be done before your event starts, remember Track takes precedence over Field events.

SCRATCHINGS you must let us know if you are going to be scratched from a event a.s.a.p

MARSHALLING for the first events of Track, Field & Circular will be at 8.15am, for all other events 15mins before event time.

UNIFORM correct Knox uniform must be worn at Region, black shorts (no branding) and if you have compression shorts black shorts must be worn over the top, "skins" must be worn inside out. White socks only.

SPIKES before you go through marshalling check your spikes 7mm conical or christmas tree spikes allowed no other types of spikes will be allowed, check that you are not missing any.

DUTY SIGN ON TIMES

Chief Officials 7.45am and before 7.50am (meeting 8am)

Officials 8am and before 8.10am, please be at your duty for 8.15am for instructions from the Chief Official.

8.30 Sharp Competition commences

Entry fee $3 Program $2 athletes and children U/16 free.

Full canteen and BBQ available.

Remember the sunscreen and drink plenty of water !!

Our annual mid week twilight competition due to the Eastern Metropolitan Regional Track & Field Championships being held this weekend. Best of luck to all those competing at these championships.

 

Twilights for our photographers can sometimes be a challenge - but at times, can produce some unusual results.

 

 17/2/10  EMR Track & Field Championships Timetable (Updated Ver 4.1)  

2010 EMR T&F Championships Timetable is now out and the updated draft (version 4.1 - see top line of each page) can be viewed from HERE!

 

There are changes to some High Jump times to previous versions.

 

Remember the official timetable will be the one in the EMR Program sold at the gate, so please check upon arrival to confirm event times.

 16/2/10  Wednesday Twilight - Last Chance To Buy Knox Centre Uniform  

The competition this weekend for those Under 9 and above who have entered the Regional Championships, a Knox Centre uniform is required (the yellow and black uniform shown below), along with plain black shorts/bloomers. Any logos must be no larger than a 50 cent piece. For those competing for the first time, please note you cannot compete in your club uniform. 

The Uniform Shop will be open in front of the pavilion for one hour during Wednesday Twilight competition. Listen for the PA announcements for opening times.

We are still waiting for a timetable for the EMR T&F Championships and will post as soon as it becomes available.

 15/2/10  Collingwood Open Day Photos

 15/2/10  AV Shield State Final  

Congratulations to Knox Seniors U16 girls & boys who both won the AV shield state final (see AV web site www.athsvic.org.au ). Both these teams had Knox little Aths competing along with athletes from other centres.

One of the great aspect and positives of Little Athletics is going out there and doing your own personal best and having fun doing it, no matter where you finish. Sometimes that means helping and encouraging those who need a little bit extra to do that,  but they are still out there each week having a go. That's what "Family, Fun and Fitness" is all about and that's what makes Little Aths so special and unique

Congratulations to Wantirna's Brendan Lee who won the Men's Under 16 Heptathlon at the 2010 Australian Combined Events Championships down in Hobart at the Domain Athletics Centre.

 

 13/2/10  Wednesday Twilight  - 17th Feb  

The next competition is a twilight this Wednesday night starting at 6:00pm due to the Regional Championships being held at the Knox Track over the weekend. Being a school night, the competition will finish earlier than a normal Friday Twilight and some age groups may miss out on events.

 

 12/2/10  2009/10 Knox Centre Track & Field Championships Entry Form
