2/07/08  Knox Open Day - Uniforms

We have received some queries regarding uniforms for our Open Day. The Knox Centre follows normal Open Day practice in that either a Centre,  or a Club Uniform with patch,  may be worn.

2/07/08  Knox Open Day - Duty Roster

The Knox Open Day is one of the most eagerly anticipated events on the Cross Country calendar with over 500 athletes competing, literally, from all over the state. To help make the day a success, we require ALL Knox families to assist with duty on the day filling roles such as Course Marshalls, Timekeeping, Recording and Canteen. Each work shift is only around 1.5 hours duration, using the philosophy that many hands makes light work!

A copy of the Duty Roster appear below and we would ask that you check this to see what duty you are scheduled to perform. On Saturday, please report to David Murrihy in the announcing tent at least 15 minutes before your scheduled start time. If, for any reason, you cannot attend or fulfill your duty role please call David beforehand on 0418 542 337.

Duty Roster HERE!

Please note that families entering on Saturday as a Late Entry will be also required to report for duty.

Also, if there are any other mums, dads, older siblings feeling like a bit of extra exercise we can always use extra Hares and Slugs so bring your shorts and runners!

See you Saturday!

Dave M

 29/06/08  Region Re-Shuffle

The VLAA Board of Management announced this week the restructuring of the Regions effective as at 1 Sep 2008. In making a final decision regarding the redistribution of Centres the Board has taken into considerations the following important rational:

- Distance to venues

- Number of athletes within Regions

- Numbers of Centres within Regions

- Accessibility of all weather tracks for every Region (Current & Future)

- Maintaining 8 Regions

- Assisting weak Regions for future sustainability

Please click HERE! for the full listing (Courtesy of Bucchus Marsh Centre Website)

We welcome Waverley as the new Centre to EMR, which is already familiar to us during the Cross Country season. The Collingwood Centre leaves EMR and will now be with NMR.

This is not the first time Waverley has been in our region. Back in 1970 when they were called "Zones",  Knox was in Zone Five which at the time consisted of Beaumaris, Brighton, Knox, Oakleigh, Sandringham and Waverley.

 29/06/08  Koomba Park Photos

We seemed to have lost a pavilion since our last competition at Koomba - good thing it wasn't raining!

Please note the 1000m race on Saturday will not be a point scoring event due to the kafuffle on the final loop.

11/06/08  LAPS - All Spots Filled Already!

Knox Little A’s.. you ought to be… CONGRATULATED!  When you see this level of effort and commitment by volunteers it’s no wonder Knox has such a reputation for participation and membership.

It took less than a working day for four enthusiastic and motivated Club officials to liaise with schools and confirm their nominations for the Little Aths Program in Schools (LAPS).   All spots have now been filled.  (If you are still interested but were beaten to a place you may still send through your details.  If one of the schools pulls out you’ll be next on the list.   See the requirements in an earlier website posting.)

Rosemary M

 11/06/08  LAPS Program For Schools

If you are interested in the chance to promote your Club at your local Primary School you’ll need to act fast.  The VLAA is inviting Centres to nominate interested schools to receive a visit from the Little Athletics Program for Schools (LAPS).  The Knox Centre can nominate a maximum of four schools, so get in soon to be considered.

The program is aimed at Grades Prep to 4 and is conducted by an Athletic Development Officer (ADO) supplied through the VLAA.  LAPS will run in August, September and October.  On one day during this period an ADO will visit the school you nominate and conduct up to six 45 minute sessions based on the “On Track” program…(a bit like Knox’s Mini Olympics.)

To participate your Club will be required to provide a representative to assist at the school on the day of the LAPS visit. At this time your Club Rep has the opportunity to talk about your Club and hand out promotional material.   (N.B. If you nominate but don’t send a representative to help out, your club will be charged $25 a session.)  A school teacher must also be present throughout each session.

Nominations must come through the Centre.  VLAA will not accept direct applications.

If you are interested please email Knox Centre Rep. Rosemary at amerrigang@ozemail.com.au  providing the name, address, contact name and email for the school you wish to nominate, as well as the name and contact details of the Club representative who will assist on the day.

If your Club is selected for a LAPS visit your Club Rep will be required to liaise with the school and Centre rep. to set up a suitable date and plan for the day.

Get in quick!  There are only four spots, and no applications will be accepted after June 20.

10/06/08  Knox Cross Country Handicap Day

This Saturday at Tirhatuan Park is our annual Knox Cross Country Handicap Day. Athletes in the first event will need to arrive by 8:45am to receive their handicap time. Each athlete starts the race at a different time (which is determined from previous times recorded during the season). Trophies are awarded to the 1st, 2nd & 3rd place getters over the line for each distance (regardless of gender, age or Centre) for each race and will be presented at our Cross Country Presentation night at St Josephs Hall, Boronia on Sat 9th August 2008.

While all athletes can compete, only registered athletes (including non-Knox athletes) that have competed in at least three "point scoring" days (since registration) prior to Handicap Day, are eligible for an award. The order of events starting at 9:00am will be:

3000m

1000m
  500m
2000m
1500m

(Note: this order has been modified from the listing posted earlier on 10/6/08)
