21/01/12 Normal competition & Special Thanks

The second half of the 2011/12 T&F season started on Saturday and despite the school holidays a large number of athletes (including some athletes from other Centres) not only attended the competition but were able to compete on the new track for the first time.

• Chris Porta (Shelly’s brother) and Advent Print Management for donating their services and printing the fireworks letters (approx 3500).

The Centre had a fantastic turnout for the second Working Bee on Sunday with 33 adults and 3 children from nearly every club assisting with the clean-up of the complex and tackling some scheduled jobs for the enjoyment of all those who attend Knox LAC. Special thanks to the 9 people who have turned up to both Working Bees so far this season.

19/01/12 Knox Open Twilight

Don't forget to put your entry form in this Saturday for the Open Twilight on Feb 11th. This will be the first major event held on the newly resurfaced Knox Park track. There'll be plenty of fun activities for the kids and the night will conclude with a fireworks display.

19/01/12 Working Bee this Sunday

We need plenty of rakes this Sunday, so please bring a rake in addition to any other handy tools, such as spades, brooms, whippersnippers, blowers, building tools, wheel barrows, gloves etc.

17/01/12 We're Back, and Looking Great!!

The Knox Track has officially re-opened as of today, at 4pm, 17th January 2012.

The Knox Centre Executive would like to thank the Knox Council and the Knox Park Board of Management for completing the project on-time, and also to our parents and athletes for their patience.

Our track is a "Type 1" (the rubber granules on the surface are much finer than regular synthetic tracks) one of only three in the state with one being Lakeside Stadium.

Competition will re-commence at the track this Saturday with a modified Program C.

The Working Bee is also on this Sunday starting at 8am for the parents who haven't participated as yet to obtain their $30 "Working Bee' refund. We need many hands to assist to bring the track back up to scratch so please bring along any tools you think will assist, such as rakes, spades, brooms, whippersnippers, blowers, building tools, wheel barrows, gloves etc.

15/01/12 LAVic Survey

LAVic are currently running a survey that they would like parents to complete. In particular, there are a couple of questions regarding when we would prefer to have relays and multi event championship events. If you wish to make your voice heard (please do), you can do the survey HERE (takes about 5 minutes). There is also a prize draw for participants.

15/01/12 Open Twilight Fireworks

We need to notify all our neighbours within a 1KM radius of the track about the fireworks display, sponsored by Ray Abley Real Estate, that will be taking place at the end of our Open Twilight on Feb. 11th (get your entries in quickly!). Volunteers are required for a letterbox drop to meet this requirement. The more people, the easier the task for everyone. Please contact the coordinator, Shelly Bishop, on 0418 582 413, 9779 3980 (H) or email to sbsbbishop@optusnet.com.au to advise what area(s) you can do, and for further details.

06/1/12 Update on track upgrade (and other work)

Work on the track upgrade has been going to schedule and is in its final stages. As per the photos below, the laying of the new track surface has been completed including the full track and run-offs, the Big D (HJ/Jav), the new javelin area and LJ/TJ. Line marking has commenced and cleanup work is underway. Please note that the complex is still closed (i.e. no competition or training) until all work is completed, and the track is handed back to the Board of Management by the Council. All tenants and groups will be advised when the complex is re-opened.

Upgrading the Presentation area is also underway with the fencing around the area now complete and the gardens cleaned up and replanted. Thanks to those people (some who gave up a days annual leave) who attended a special working bee this week to continue the work for the benefit of all those who attend the complex – thanks to Debbie Martine, Lorelle Stevenson, Grant Bertram, John Beagley, Noel Eastwood, Phil Bateman, Russell Speight and Phil Matthews. Further work on this area will be part of the planned working bees (Jan 22nd and Feb 5th).

For any inquiries regarding the track upgrade or the working bees, please contact Russell Speight ( Knox LAC President) or Stephen Egan ( Knox LAC Secretary).
