Profiles of the Official Knox LAC Photographers The Knox Centre has a team of six photographers to provide photos for our website according to the Knox LAC Photographic Policy (viewed HERE!). For years we have had the reputation in having the best photographs available which have been available for downloading for one month on normal competition, and 12 months for special events as well as all photos for-sale at the end of each season of the full season's photographic record CD/DVD compiled by Phil Matthews.
Generally, two or three take photos during competition and the profiles of our photographers are: Grant Bertram The newest member of the Knox LAC Photography Team, Grant became involved after his daughter Ashleigh started competing for the Knoxfield club in the Under 7’s in season 2007/08. Grant is the Senior Product Manager for DeWalt and is a former little athlete himself who enjoys being able to give all athlete’s the opportunity of seeing themselves in action on the website, something he wasn’t able to do when he was a kid. Grant has already produced a number of PhotoVideos for the Knoxfield club as well as the now infamous “Eat It” video starring a now rather well known Centre Vice President. Once the Cross Country season is over he looks forward to a busy 2008/2009 where he will juggle taking photo’s as well as taking on the role of long jump chief official. His weapon of choice is a Canon 400D.” Mike Donato
Mike is also one of the coaches at Knox but has
been spotted from time to time taking a few photos squeezing in around the
edges of coaching. An engineer by profession & technophile by inclination he
started in Little Aths way back in the 60's at Kew. Since then he has been
bouncing around in a variety of sports culminating in coaching at Knox and
trying to keep fit himself.
Mike has been a professional computer consultant
and into digital photography, movie making and all things related to
computers for decades. He started with his first computer a 64K Sinclair
Spectrum back in the late 70's at the dawn of the digital age. When Apple
first released their Lisa in 1983 and subsequently the Macintosh in 1984 he
has been a Mac user ever since. Sometimes he turns on his PC just to shake
his head in disbelief and laugh at Microsoft and Vista. At last count the
family had a network of 6 computers at home with the main server being
hosted at a data centre in the city. Mike's
website
has been up since 1995 and is one of the oldest commercial sites on the
Internet and his company Horizen has been an ISP and domain host for almost
10 years.
Starting with the Apple Quicktake digital camera
(a long time ago) and subsequently a range of Kodak digital cameras, he has
several bulging at the seams family, sports and Knox digital photo albums.
He has been known to be seen with a Sony handy cam taking the odd
embarrassing movie of kids falling into the water jump during steeplechase!
He eyes Bert Pennings new Canon digital SLR camera with slavering jealousy
and wishes that he could also justify such a purchase. But reluctantly
recognizes that a HD handy cam is a higher priority.
He would be taking more photos but reckons that
the current crop of Knox photographers are all doing such a great job that
he can concentrate on coaching.

His current camera is a Kodak Z740 5MP with 10x
Optical Zoom usually used with a Manfrotto monopod cos the Kodak doesn't
have image stabilisation.
Stephen Egan Stephen, an Automotive CAD Designer at Holden, has been involved with the Knox Centre since season 2001/02 when his older daughter joined Bayswater Bullets, although she has since moved onto other activities. During the 2004 Cross Country season, was asked to submit photos to the Knox website, so was the start of taking photos of athletes from all clubs. His Camera is a Kodak DX6490 4 MP with 10x zoom Carl Zeiss lens. Darren Huxley Our most recent photographer is Darren Huxley. Some of you would be aware of the excellent shots taken by Darren towards the end of the Cross Country Season where his speciality are the sharp individual action shots!

Darren has been a Police Officer since 1990 and currently working in the Melbourne CBD. He is completing the first year of a 4 year part time course "Advanced Diploma of Photography" at the Photography Studies College in South Bank.
Darren's dream job is to be a full time Sports Photographer and he started off in taking photos of his nieces U/7 Emily and U/10 Rachel during the Cross Country season.
His reasons for coming to Little Athletics is to practice Sports Photography and to provide photos for our website. Darren is the one with the largest telephoto lens on the track.
