Cross Country Points Scoring & AwardsThe Cross Country season consists of several competition days the actual number of which varies from season to season. Currently a season consists of approximately 18 Knox LAC competition days plus Region & State Championship days and various Centre Open Days. During the season each athlete accumulates points for themselves and their club. The points are totalled at the end of the CC season and awards are made based on the accumulated points scored for individuals and teams (Clubs) The official day of the week the results will be available on the website is Wednesdays and photos Mondays but generally, these will be posted earlier as soon as they become available. On this page the points scoring system, as applied during the CC season, is explained. Individual PointsPoints are awarded on Points Scoring days only (N). Days that are non Points Scoring Days include:
Points tableAccumulated points are a combination of two separate scores: Attendance + Performance Attendance
Performance
Handicap DayOn ‘Handicap Day’, when contested, athletes score attendance points (3 points) only. Handicap day is not considered for deduction in the 'Best N-1' requirement (see below). Handicap Day counts towards the 100% Attendance Day. Competing in other than correct age group race
Athletes that compete in other than their correct age group race on "Running
Up Day" will score attendance points for that race but will not
attract performance points.
Athletes that compete in other than their correct age group on normal point scoring days will not score attendance or performance points for that race. Point Scoring Days (Best N-1)The end of season accumulated score is taken from the maximum possible points scoring days minus 1 to allow for sick days, school representation etc. Therefore an athlete that had contested 14 out of 14 possible points scoring days would have the best 13 scores counted. An athlete that had contested 10 out of 14 possible points scoring days would have 10 scores counted. The day subtracted is a full points scoring day and excludes 'attendance only' points scoring days such as Handicap Day. The accumulated points score is used to decide the following season award winners:
*In circumstances where an athlete accumulates the highest score yet does not consistently win the distance race (i.e. younger athletes competing over the same distance finish ahead), at the discretion of the CC Chairperson, the award may be presented to another athlete. Championship DayThe Knox CC Championship Day is usually held just after the State CC Championships and is generally the last competition day of the CC season. This is a non points scoring day but is used to determine the CC champions for each age group. The Knox LAC age group champion is the Knox athlete that wins their respective age group race on Championship Day. These athletes will receive the Gold Medal at the KLAC CC Presentation. Athletes that finish 2nd and 3rd will receive Silver and Bronze medals respectively at the KLAC CC Presentation While all athletes are encouraged to compete on Championship Day only eligible Knox athletes can receive an award. To be eligible to receive an award on Championship Day an athlete must have competed on 60% of possible points scoring days. Max J.
