Sat/Sun  21st/22nd  March  2009 - 2008/09 VLAA State Track & Field  Championships

The VLAA State Track & Field Championships was held at Olympic Park with some great results including a State Champion.

Congratulations to U/11 Annie Egan who won State Gold Medals in both the 800m & 1500m and to U/11 Erin Holdway in winning a State Bronze Medal in the Shot Put. Annie also came 5th in 400m final and Erin came 12th in the Discus and 14th in the Javelin

U/13 David Thomson ,who has been struggling with an injury since the Regional Championships, came a very commendable 5th in the Discus.

These are excellent results considering that only a very small percentage make it into the State Championships and in each event, and they were competing against 24 of the best athletes in the State.

Excellent effort by U/11 Erin Holdway who increased her club record in the Shot Put to 8.22m as well as reaching her Gold PB Medal Status. U/11 Annie Egan increased her 400m club record to 1.07.29 sec and topped the PB effort with 3 PB's including a 17 second PB in the 1500m.

Eastern Metropolitan Regional T&F Championships - Sat/Sun  14th/15th February 2009

Congratulations to our athletes who competed against the best from the12 different Centres within the Eastern Suburbs. A credit to all our athletes competing. The first two in each event qualify for the State Championships at Olympic Park and then the next eight best results within the State will progress also.

We had six athletes competing for the Knox Centre with some great results.

Congratulations to U/11 Annie Egan who broke a 18 year old 400m club record. Annie ran 1 min 09.32 sec breaking the record of 1 min 11.90 sec set on 9th Nov 1991. Annie also increased her 80m Hurdle club record to 14.42 sec

Best PB Effort was by U/11 Annie Egan with 4 PB's for the weekend.

Three of our athletes medalled this season:  U/11 Annie winning a Regional Gold, Silver and Bronze Medal,  U/11 Erin winning a Silver and a Bronze with U/13 David winning a Bronze before being stretchered off after injuring his leg in the Long Jump. We wish David all the best in his recovery!

We had three who have qualified or progressed to State. Well done to U/11 Annie Egan (400m, 800m, 1500m and 80m Hurdles - Annie will be dropping the hurdles as it clashes with the 800m), U/11 Erin Holdway (Discus & Shot Put) and  U/13 David Thomson (Discus).  Well done also to U/10's Cody Norton and Nathan Goodger who had some good results as well as U/11 Emily Dewar.

Friday 13th February 2009 - Red Cross Bush Fire Appeal

In just a short 5 days, a Red Cross "Bush Fire" Appeal was setup for the twilight with companies and individuals donating over $10,000 worth of goods for the raffles and auctions. All clubs, including Bayswater pooled their BBQ supplies with all funds also being donated.

It was said the nights competition was the best atmosphere ever felt at Knox Park, no doubt influenced by everyone's generosity.

Welcome to Bayswater Bullets the Roe family whose daughter U/9 Emily tried out for the first time, coming second in her first event - the 400m.

Congratulations to U/11 Erin Holdway who increased her club records in the Shot Put (8.20mm). and to U/13 David Thomson who broke the 70m record with 9.43 sec. The previous record of 9.51 sec was set on 20th Nov 2004. Sadly, David pulled his thigh muscle in the last 10m on the eve of the EMR T&F Championships.

Best PB effort for the night was by U/8 Sarah Cobb, U/11 Alan Damen, U/12 Emma Thomson, U/12 Tayla White and U13 David Thomson with 3 PB's each.

Well done to U/8 Sarah Cobb and U/12 Emma Thomson who have both reached their 10 PB Certificate and U/11 Emily Dewar has reached their Bronze PB Medal Status. U/11 Chris Heckenberg has reached his Bronze PB Medal status and U/11 Annie Egan has reached her Gold.

Sun 8th February 2009 - Seaford Little Athletics Open Day

At the Seaford Open Day at Riviera Park Reserve U/11 Annie Egan won gold in the 60m Hurdles and the U/12 2000m Steeplechase, a silver in the 800m and bronze in the Javelin.

Sat  7th February 2009

A  very hot morning with a limited program. 800m and 1500m cancelled and program finished at 11:00am ending with an untimed Steeple so athletes could get a drenching before going home.

U/11 Annie Egan increased her club record in the 80m Hurdles to 14.46 sec and U/12 Emma Thomson broke the Long Jump (Board) record with 3.30m.

Sat  20th December 2008 - Ray Abley Multi-Event Day

The Multi Event is a competition which tests athlete’s all round skills with points allocated depending on their level of performance in a set range of events. The winner of the Multi-Event is the athlete with the highest total point score after all events.

This event places a stronger emphasis on the participation of children in a wider range of events rather than the specialisation in one or two specific events.

Congratulations to U/11 Annie Egan and U/13 David Thomson in taking out the title of best "all-round" Knox athlete within their respective age groups. Special mention to U/11 Alan Damen who still came 6th out of 37 despite having a fall in the 80m Hurdles and recording "0" points for that event.

Sat 6th December 2008 - Doncaster Open Twilight

Annie Egan and David Thompson competed in the Doncaster Open Twilight which had frequent heavy storms throughout the afternoon followed by patches of sunshine. Olympian Scott Martin was there on a meet and greet, signing the popular Athletics Victoria cards as well as posing for photographs. Well done to the Doncaster Centre in running the competition in trying conditions with stoppages only during the worst of the storms. Although David made his way into the finals, he couldn't compete due muscle twinges - as it was better to rest than risk another injury.
