"Come Back to Knox" Family Fun Day starting in the afternoon. For more

Bayswater Bullets is approaching a major milestone of its 40th Anniversary.
We are one of the foundation clubs within the Knox Little Athletics Centre and
the very first day of competition was held on Saturday, 2nd November 1968 at the
old Boronia High School oval. This was the first weekend after the Mexico
Olympics had ended.

First Knox Centre Championships
29th March 1969. Sir Gib Chandler, the
Federal Minister of
Agriculture and Knox Centre Patron is seen here
about to present the medals to the winning athletes in the Boys Under 10, 800
metres event at the Boronia High School oval. All three athletes had broken the
Knox Centre U/10 Boys 800m record. The Silver Medallist at the rear is a Bayswater athlete wearing
the original uniform of a Black Jacket and a Yellow Sash. The Gold medal winner in
the centre is Dean Chandler of Rangeview, a grandson of Gib Chandler, from the
early settler Boronia family. The
Bronze Medallist closest to the camera is Stephen Egan from Fairpark, who today
is the Secretary of Bayswater Bullets. Bayswater had won 18 Gold Medals in these Championships. The
1969 Championships were held over three weekends due to competition had to
be over by midday. |

Knox Gazette 15th June 1969 The
first Knox Centre winner for "the most outstanding performance of the
year". The following season (1969/70), the winner of this award
became the John Bennett Memorial Trophy winner |

athlete won the first State gold medal for the Knox Centre. Bruce still

Received Official "Letter of Offer"
from the Public Record Office Victoria of the Grant Approval with a
comment by the Assessment Panel that they were impressed with the Project
and stated "Good links to local historical groups and other community
resources are demonstrated in this proposal for the history of a

Bayswater MP Peter Lockwood's Office called to say our
Local History Grants Program application worth $2,524 for the "Bayswater
Bullets Little Athletics Club 40th Anniversary History Project
" was accepted. |

Submitted an application to the State Public
Records Office for the Local History
Grants Program in conjunction with the Knox Historical Society to have our
missing information from the mid 1970's to the late 1980's researched.
It is also to produce a "Digital Story" DVD of our club history
titled "Bayswater
Bullets Little Athletics Club 40th Anniversary History Project

The Committee had a presentation by the Sports
Researcher from the Knox Historical Society Steve Flemming on ideas and
recommendations for our 40th Anniversary Project which was very useful.
Steve's father is a Life Member of Fairpark Flyers Little Athletics Club
and his sister is Heptathlon athlete Jane Flemming. |
