Walk Talk

Here we have a list of Frequently Asked Questions (and the corresponding answer) relative to Race Walking. If there is a Race Walking question you have that is not addressed here send it to info@klac23.org.au

Question Answer
How many reports does an athlete need to receive disqualification? When there are between 4 and 7 judges on a judging panel an athlete requires 3 reports to receive disqualification.

If there are only 2 to 3 judges on the panel the athlete only requires 2 reports to receive a disqualification.

How will I know if I am in danger of breaching one of the walking rules? In little athletics Walk Judges may give a verbal caution.

Firstly the judge will call out your bib number to get your attention. They would then say “Caution”

For example“ Number 25 Caution, Loss of contact.”

My child was disqualified and in my opinion should not have been. Can I turn over the decision? Decisions of the judging panel are final. However, if a disqualification occurs, the judges at Knox encourage you to speak with them so they can explain why the child was disqualified.
Do cautions count towards a disqualification? No they do not. A caution means the athlete is in danger of breaching the race walking rules. Just be careful and perhaps slow down and concentrate on your technique
Can one judge single out an athlete and disqualify them? No, this can not be done. A judge may caution an athlete twice, once for knees and once for contact.

However, each judge can only report an athlete once

If I receive disqualification, how will I find out? The chief judge is the only judge whom informs athletes of their disqualification. The recording officials and other judges do not.
I am an athlete in the under 11 age group and was disqualified in the last race. Why was I disqualified when I did not hear any reports from the judges? In little athletics, verbal reports are given to the under 7 to under 10 age groups.

Non verbal reports are given to under 11 to under 15.

This is why you did not hear your reports.
